Even better, he had a 44-game hitting streak, stopped only when Central Arizona walked him purposely four times in succession. A year earlier, the Arizona State signee who was drafted by four MLB teams, hit .415 with 14 homers and 39 stolen bases as a first-team NJCAA All-American.
