A Douglas woman was killed Saturday when she was thrown from a car in a two-vehicle crash in Sierra Vista, authorities said.
Hilda Mathis, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 7:30 p.m. crash at the intersection of Highway 90 at East Charleston Road, according to a Sierra Vista Police Department news release on Monday.
Mathis, who was not wearing a seat belt, was a passenger in a Buick sedan. The car was driven by Jerral Mathis, 67, also of Douglas. He will be cited for failure to yield the right-of-way prior to making a left hand turn, police said.
Jerral Mathis was taken to Canyon Vista Medical Center by paramedics and then flown by helicopter to Banner-University Medical Center Tucson. He was treated and has been released, said police.
The investigation revealed that the sedan was traveling south on Highway 90 and attempted to make a left turn onto Charleston Road when it was hit by a Isuzu station wagon that was headed north on Highway 90, police said.
Investigators found that the Isuzu had the right-of-way. The two occupants in the Isuzu, who were both wearing their seat belts, did not require to be taken to a hospital, said police.
