The Tucson Police Department has been unable to produce documents relating to a former detective who resigned after she failed to investigate dozens of abuse cases.
Lisa E. Lopez left the department last September after an office of professional standards investigation revealed that she failed to investigate 36 cases while she was assigned to the child sexual abuse unit and the vulnerable adult abuse unit, according to a consent agreement with the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board.
On May 3, AZPOST released a meeting agenda saying the board would be addressing a potential agreement with Lopez regarding sanctions to her state certification.
Because the case went directly to a consent agreement and the board did not initiate proceedings against Lopez, the AZPOST documents don't include details of the investigation that would usually be found in the board's charging document.
On May 4, the Star requested the summary report from TPD's office of professional standards investigation into Lopez , but more than two weeks later, the records have not been made available.
Last Wednesday, the AZPOST accepted the agreement with Lopez allowing her to voluntarily surrender her state certification for police work.
Without a valid peace officer certification, Lopez is barred from police work in the state.
