LAS VEGAS β€” A fire official and a neighbor who has to find another place to live are blaming squatters for a blaze that damaged two homes overnight in a neighborhood a few blocks from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.

No injuries were reported after Clark County firefighters doused flames a little before 3 a.m. Tuesday in the single-story houses built close together on Wilbur Street.

Deputy Clark County Fire Chief Jeff Buchanan says one of the houses had apparently been occupied by vagrants.

Neighbor John Wynn tells KSNV-TV he was alerted to the fire by a police officer at his door.

Wynn says he called police recently about squatters living in the vacant home.

He estimates fire damage at about $150,000.
