Bear cub with bucket on its head rescued
McHENRY — Wildlife officials tracked a black bear cub for three days in order to tranquilize it and remove a bucket that had gotten stuck on its head.
The Cumberland Times-News reported Sunday the 100-pound cub was freed near the Wisp Resort in McHenry during an annual autumn festival.
The Wildlife and Heritage Service of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources said in a Facebook post that a crowd of onlookers at the resort was giddy to see the cub returned to the nearby woods.

4 killed in shooting at child’s birthday party
An argument escalated into a backyard shooting at a toddler’s birthday party in South Texas, leaving four men dead and a fifth man wounded, authorities said Sunday.
The shooting happened at a child’s first birthday party Saturday afternoon in Taft, 12 miles north of Corpus Christi, the Texas Department of Public Safety said.
Sgt. Nathan Brandley said those involved were distant relatives. Authorities did not say what the men were arguing about, but said the shooting occurred in the backyard of a residence.
A 20-year-old man was in custody Sunday, Brandley said. The man’s 37-year-old father was also a suspect, but he had not yet been arrested, Brandley said.
Brandley identified those killed as 62-year-old Juan Espinoza, 20-year-old Juan Sandoval III, 22-year-old Jeremy Sandoval and 25-year-old Nicky Sandoval. He said the three younger men were Espinoza’s grandsons.
The wounded man, 43-year-old Juan Espinoza Jr., was airlifted to a Corpus Christi hospital. Brandley said he was expected to survive.

Police probe brawl
of right, left protesters
PORTLAND — Authorities have launched an investigation on assaults that stemmed from a Portland street brawl that erupted this weekend between demonstrators with a right-wing group and left-wing counter-protesters, media outlets reported Sunday.
There were no immediate arrests following the clash Saturday, according to the reports.
But Portland police said they were investigating and seeking help from witnesses, as well as reviewing video and photos.
Four people received medical attention, but authorities did not know if anyone was taken to hospitals.
Officers saw people at the demonstration with hard-knuckled gloves, guns, knives and batons, police said.
The right-wing Patriot Prayer group was holding a “Flash March for Law and Order” when the counter-demonstrators, some of whom identified themselves as members of the militant group Antifa, confronted them and scuffles broke out.
Police in riot gear used foam and polystyrene bullets to break up the brawl, KGW-TV and the Portland Tribune reported.

Deal reached with musicians, opera says
CHICAGO — The Lyric Opera of Chicago says it has reached a multi-year labor deal with striking musicians.
A statement released by the music company Saturday night says the agreement would extend through the 2020-21 season, if ratified by members of the Chicago Federation of Musicians, Local 10-208.
The Lyric Opera’s 64th season was disrupted Tuesday when musicians walked off the job.
Musicians said they were protesting the company’s proposal to cut the number of orchestra musicians by five. The opera company also wanted to cut the pay of remaining musicians by 8 percent and the number of working weeks by two weeks, to 22.
The Lyric Opera says details of the proposed agreement were not being released at this time.
Musicians were expected to vote on the agreement Sunday.
