Sahuaro's Medina drafted by Rockies

There was no surprise when Sahuaro High right-hander Javier Medina was drafted 77th overall, by the Rockies, last week. Before the AIA declared his Mexican visa ineligible, Medina pitched 19 innings in an 18-day March stretch against Flowing Wells, Mountain View and Marana in which he struck out 37 batters in 19 innings and allowed five hits. He didn’t pitch again, but scouts had seen enough. He signed for $750,000 with a $20,000 allotment for college education.
