Barre3, a global fitness studio that combines yoga, Pilates and ballet barre workouts, will open its first Arizona location at La Encantada, 2905 E. Skyline Drive, on Monday.

The 1,863-square-foot studio will occupy the space that was once part of Bluepoint Kitchen & Bar, next to Blanco Tacos and Tequila, and employ nine part-time employees.

Memberships are specially priced at $115 per month for unlimited classes. Drop-in classes are $20 for a single class. Packages are available for five, 10, 20 and 30 classes, with prices starting at $85.

For $5 per child per session, parents can drop off their kids in the studio’s play lounge. Reservations are required.

Since the inception of Barre3 in Portland, Ore., in 2008, more than 70 franchise locations have opened across the U.S. and abroad. A second Arizona studio is slated to open in Scottsdale in July.

Kate Pedersen, the owner of Barre3 Tucson, said she fell in love with the workouts while visiting relatives in Portland. The exercise helped ease the back pain she experienced working as a nurse. She then decided to open a studio in Tucson.

“I went to nursing school because I love to help people,” she said. “Barre3 is my way of continuing to help people find balance in their lives through exercise and nutrition.”

To celebrate its opening, Barre3 Tucson will offer free classes — some with free child care — May 19-25.

Classes run from 6 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, with morning and afternoon hours, depending on the class, Saturday and Sunday.

Call the studio at 299-1287 or visit www.barre3.com/locations/tucson for class schedules.
