Imagine an important project you need to accomplish. Is it taking longer than it should? Is procrastination slowing you down?

Here are a few tips that may help.

Start by visualizing your success. Close your eyes and imagine yourself celebrating your accomplishment. How will this change your life and the lives of those you love the most? Picture yourself in the beautiful new house you just purchased, or walking on the beach during your dream vacation.

People take action faster to avoid pain than they do to achieve pleasure. Take a few minutes and imagine how you will feel a year from now if you do nothing. What are the costs of inaction? How would this negatively affect you and the ones you love?

Are you ready to get started? Remember, it is more important to get the project done than it is to make it perfect. Do not allow the quest for perfection to be the source of procrastination.

Sit down for an hour and give the project your full and undivided attention. Break the project down into smaller pieces. What steps need to be completed and in which order? Realistically, how long will each step take and what additional resources will you need to accomplish them?

Write down some goals to help you accomplish each step and set a deadline to complete those goals. Add those deadlines to your calendar and schedule periodic reminders to keep you on track. Set up a reward system to ensure you celebrate your successes along the way.

To ensure better results, find an accountability partner and share your goals with them. Ask them to check in with you periodically to make sure you are on schedule and moving in the right direction.

The final recommendation is to take action today. The sooner you get the momentum started, the sooner you take that walk on the beach!
