Caridad Community Kitchen celebrated the opening of a newly expanded facility Wednesday that will boost the number of meals prepared for community members in need.
A program of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, Caridad features not only a feeding program but a 10-week culinary training program for unemployed and underemployed individuals, and a catering service as well.
The expansion will allow the number of meals prepared at Caridad to jump from 168,000 a year to 500,000. These include after-school dinners for children, and meals for seniors and the homeless.
Students in the culinary training program will work in a commercial kitchen equipped for expanded production, with updated and modern equipment.
