- Arizona Elks Major Projects:
- The University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center received $125,000 from the Arizona Elks Major Projects. Since 1992, Arizona Elks lodges across Arizona have raised nearly $6.6 million for the UA Steele Center. They have supported basic science research, the purchase of vital research lab equipment, seed grants, public education, conferences, resident education, pediatric clinic renovation, expanding the UA Steele Center to Phoenix, and established two endowed chairs. The Elks also have donated toys and handmade blankets, beanies and booties for premature babies and young patients hospitalized at Banner-Diamond Children’s.
- Chapman Community Green Team:
- Children’s Clinics, a local nonprofit outpatient clinic for children with special healthcare needs, was selected as the primary beneficiary of Chapman’s “Team Honda Week of Service,” aimed at bringing together Honda and Acura associates, dealers and suppliers to help those in need. The Chapman Community Green Team, a group of local volunteers from all Chapman dealerships in Southern Arizona, sponsored the Children’s Clinics’ annual Back-to-School event, providing backpacks and school supplies to 500 patients.
- Tucson Welcome Club: The club presented a $4,700 check to Wings for Women for their summer “No Hungry Kid Tucson Project.” The initiative helps children who are dependent upon school breakfast and lunch as their primary meals. Throughout the year, members also donated $2,158 in cash as well as clothing, school supplies and hygiene items toward their ongoing programs.
- Aspen Dental: On June 24, nearly 450 Aspen Dental practices across the country, including in Tucson, opened their doors to provide a day of free dental care for thousands of the nation’s veterans. The Day of Service was Aspen Dental’s fourth annual. It’s part of Aspen Dental’s Healthy Mouth Movement, a community-giving initiative to deliver free dental care to veterans.
