In some of Hughes Federal Credit Union’s television spots, Arizona basketball coach Sean Miller seems slightly bewildered by former coach Lute Olson’s old-school ways.

It has been a sweet March for UA men’s basketball Coach Sean Miller, who is winning accolades on and off the court.

His newest television commercials for Tucson’s Hughes Federal Credit Union — which also feature former coach Lute Olson — won five national Diamond Awards earlier this month from the Credit Union National Association Marketing & Business Development Council.

The Diamond is the group’s top award, which recognizes outstanding marketing achievements in the credit union industry.

You know the commercials: UA students hip-hop dancing, the Wildcat pom line rocking out and Hall of Fame Coach Olson, um, dancing, if you can call it that.

Steve Kerr showed me this move back in the ’80s,” Olson says with a charming grin to Miller, who looks fairly horrified by the stiff old-school action. “It’s called the robot.”

Hughes Federal Credit Union was honored for that commercial and for two others highlighting Miller and Olson’s yin-and-yang chemistry; for brand awareness of the credit union and its UA Visa debit card through their association with Miller; and for the redesign of its website at www.HughesFCU.org.

The awards were given to Hughes for credit unions in the $500 million to $1 billion asset category at a ceremony in Orlando, Fla. Hughes partnered with Caliber Group, Litteer Films, IMG Sports Marketing, Arizona Athletics, UA School of Dance and the Arizona Pomline.
