Northwest Medical Center

Northwest Medical Center has been at odds with UnitedHealthcare since March. The two reached an agreement Saturday.

Patients seeking emergency or urgent care for non-life-threatening conditions have a new option: Wait at home instead of in the waiting room.

Northwest Medical Center and Oro Valley Hospital’s ER and their six affiliated Northwest Urgent Care centers are now offering online check-in.

Launched Tuesday, Nov. 17, online-check-in is accessed through the website HealthierTucson.com. Select the type of care you are seeking, and a location, to receive a projected treatment time.

The service does not allow patients whose symptoms indicate a life-threatening or debilitating medical condition to use it; keywords such as “chest pain” trigger a directive to call 911 or to go to the nearest ER immediately, Northwest officials said in a news release. “This service can be extremely helpful for a parent with a small child, or for someone who is bringing in an elderly relative who is concerned about exposure to germs and viruses in the waiting room,” Northwest Medical Center CEO Kevin Stockton said in the release.
