Tucson home sales, prices improving

Total sales volume in the Tucson residential real estate market increased nearly 39 percent in December over November, to $264 million, statistics show.

The average sales price rose to $211,709 in December, a gain of about 1 percent over November’s $209,485, according to the Tucson Association of Realtors’ Multiple Listing Service.

The median sales price — a measure that avoids the skewing effect of very high or low sale prices — went up 4 percent, from $169,000 in November to $176,000 in December.

Homes are also listing at a slightly higher price. The average list price in December was $217,610, up about 2 percent month-over-month.

A total of 1,247 units sold in December, a 37 percent increase over November and a 16 percent increase over December 2014.

There were 4,888 active listings in December, about 4 percent fewer than in November.

The average number of days homes spent on the market was about the same, at 59 in December compared with 60 in November.

Resorts, hotels hiring
at job fair Tuesday

More than 15 of Tucson’s largest hotels and resorts will take part in a job fair Tuesday, Jan. 12, to fill jobs for the upcoming tourism season.

Representatives of the hospitality providers will conduct on-the-spot interviews, accept résumés (applicants should bring at least 10 copies) and review applications for jobs including housekeepers, maintenance, front desk personnel, property managers, landscapers, food service and others.

“The hospitality and resort industry is a vital to Tucson and these companies are looking to hire immediately,” says a news release from the Southern Arizona Lodging and Resort Association (SALARA).

The event, hosted by SALARA in partnership with the Arizona Daily Star and Pima County One Stop Career Centers, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the DoubleTree Hotel Tucson-Reid Park, 445 Ss Alvernon Way.

Participating employers will include Casino del Sol, Desert Diamond Casino, DoubleTree Hotel, DoubleTree Suites, Embassy Suites, Hilton El Conquistador Golf and Tennis Resort, JW Marriott Starr Pass Resort & Spa, Loews Ventana Canyon Resort & Spa, Omni Tucson National, Ramada, Red Lion Inn & Suites, The Lodge at Ventana Canyon Golf & Racquet Club, Tucson University Marriott Park, Viscount Suite Hotel, Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa and Westward Look Resort.
