A US Airways airliner lifts off the ground in April as it passes the new $42 million control tower under construction at Tucson International airport.

A little shuffle is underway at Tucson International Airport as the process of US Airways merging into American Airlines continues.

US Airways’ ticket counter at TIA has temporarily moved next to that of American Airlines, at the east end of the terminal.

This first move simply means passengers who need ticket-counter services such as baggage checks for US Airways flights will now find them at the far east end of the ticketing lobby.

But it gets a little more complicated.

Passengers who already have their boarding passes and do not need ticket-counter services are advised that US Airways/American Airlines flights departing Tucson for Phoenix will continue to leave from gates on the B concourse, where flights from Phoenix will also arrive.

The next step in the merger is due to take place Oct. 17, when all flights will operate as American Airlines.

But even when that occurs, Phoenix departures and arrivals will remain on the B concourse, while flights to and from Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth and Los Angeles will operate from the A concourse.

Ultimately, the plan at TIA is for American Airlines to relocate all its operations to the west end of the terminal and to use gates on the B concourse.

But that construction isn’t expected to be completed for at least three more months, so the airport is advising that all passengers pay close attention to their departing gate assignments.

TIA said it will post updates at www.flyTucson.com and on the airport’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
