It hit 109 degrees in Tucson on Thursday, but thankfully that fell short of the record high for the date.

Tucson sweltered in another triple-digit day, but didn’t break the 110 mark as it had the three days previous. The record high for June 22 is 114 degrees.

Tucson has seen nine straight days of 100 degrees or higher this month and we are not out of the furnace yet.

The National Weather Service is calling for highs Friday through Sunday ranging from 108 to 110. A chance for rain creeps into the forecast beginning Sunday.

An excessive heat warning remains in place until Sunday night.

Tucson Electric Power Co. saw record demand for power as temperatures soared on Tuesday and Wednesday, the utility said.

But the new record lasted only until Wednesday, when demand spun up, TEP said.

TEP has planned for ample generation resources and power purchases to meet expected summer demand, with some margin for unexpected peaks, TEP spokesman Joe Barrios said.
