The vast majority of consumers search for your products and services online. Try these simple steps to capture more of that online business in 2017.

All of the major search engines like Google, want to deliver the correct information every time there is an inquiry. If their users consistently receive the wrong information while searching, they will switch to a different search engine. Search engines reward organizations that have consistent, verifiable information by listing them on the first page of search results. You must ensure all of your online information is consistent. When it comes to your company name, address, contact information and the services you provide, consistency is especially important.

Visit your favorite search engines and type in your company name. Examine all of the online references listed in the results. There will be reference sources you totally forgot about, and some may be reporting different information about your company. The search engines can see this conflicting information. This might keep them from delivering your information when clients are searching for your service. Visit each site and update your profile with the same, consistent information.

Most of your online references will eventually direct people to your website. When they visit your website, those visitors need to be converted into prospects. Read the Biz Tips article we published last year on important website basics to convert more of your website visitors.

More than 50 percent of all online searches are now done on mobile devices. Make sure your website is optimized for use with mobile devices. This means your website is easy to navigate, and visitors can find the information they need, while viewing it from their mobile devices. Google has a free online website analyzer that will tell you if your website is mobile-optimized or not.

SCORE hopes these simple steps will help you close more business in 2017.
