An outgoing food and beverage concessionaire at Tucson International Airport is laying off more than 100 employees, as its contract winds down at the end of February.
But many of those employees may keep working at the airport.
New York-based OTG Management has filed a notice with the state required under the federal Workforce Adjustment and Retraining Act, indicating it will lay off 107 employees in Pima County.
OTG, a major food concession operator at TIA since 2006, did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Tuesday.
But an airport official said the new concession operator, Creative Foods, has interviewed all current OTG employees interested in continuing to work at the airport.
Many, if not most, are being offered new positions, airport spokesman David Hatfield said.
In September, the Tucson Airport Authority board awarded contracts to new operators for new and expanded food, beverage and retail concessions, including local favorites El Charro Cafe, Beyond Bread, The Maverick, Noble Hops, Thunder Canyon Brewery and Arbucklesβ Coffee.
The new food and beverage concessions will be operated under a joint venture led by Creative Food Group LLC of New York, which will partner with Local Foods Concepts LLC.
Construction on the new concessions is expected to start March 1, and the project is scheduled to be completed in phases through the end of 2017.
Hatfield said the plan to expand some concessions may result in more jobs at the airport once all vendors are in place.
