The folks at Arizona Hops & Vines want you to wear white to their fifth annual Great Crush Festival on Saturday, Sept. 10.

Don't listen to them; they are a little wacky when it comes to wine. And they love to laugh; they would love to see you in an all-white, pure-as-the-driven-snow summer dress — or slacks/shorts — out in the vineyard picking or stomping red wine grapes — fat and juicy with deep purple hues that will most definitely leave a stain.

OK, so they won't put you to work — too hard. Saturday's event, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the vineyards, 3450 Highway 82 in Sonoita — is more about tasting the fruits of their labors than laboring over their fruits. The day's festivities include barefoot grape-stomping, live music, sampling Hops & Vines past vinos and food.

Your $20 ticket gets you a food ticket, souvenir glass and six tasting tickets. It's $10 for designated drivers, who also get a food ticket. And since this is a family friendly environment — they have a petting zoo and the so-called Sober Shack where kids watch movies, make snacks and hang out under teen supervision — kids are free. Most vineyards in the Sonoita/Elgin and Willcox areas have already begun the fall harvest.
