The Arizona Corporation Commission is warning residents of a phone solicitation that tries to persuade people to buy into a home repair grant scheme. The callers claim to work for the commission.

The commission gave the following information in a news release:

In the scam, the callers offer information on how to get a grant from the commission for home repairs — by charging $1,300 or more on their credit card in order to file the application and set up an appointment. The caller attempts to make the pitch seem legitimate by directing the resident to the Corporation Commission website to verify the person in charge of the grant dispersal, whom they identify as “Bob.” The callers have used different names including Naomi Brooks, Mackenzie Brooks and Kevin Martin.

The ACC does not provide home repair grants and does not endorse any solicitations.
