  • Home Instead Senior Care: Is hosting its annual gift drive to bring the joy of Christmas to senior citizens in Tucson. The β€œBe A Santa To A Senior” program, which started in 2005, works to ensure that residents of nursing and care homes who may be spending the holiday alone are not forgotten. Eight Christmas trees have been set up around Tucson, each with tags containing wish list items. Community members can purchase the gifts listed on the tag and return the unwrapped items to a designated donation box through Dec. 12. Participating locations include:
  • Curves, 10355 N. La Canada Drive, No. 157, Oro Valley
  • Deco – Art For Living, 2612 E. Broadway
  • Home Instead Senior Care office, 3208 N. Tucson Blvd.
  • K-Mart, 7055 E. Broadway
  • Rocco’s Little Chicago Pizzeria, 2707 E. Broadway
  • Calvary Christian Fellowship of Tucson, 3850 N. Commerce Drive
  • Golder Ranch Fire District, 3885 E. Golder Ranch Drive
  • Vistoso Community Church, 1200 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd.
  • Rincon Optimist Club: The Chapter of the Optimists of Southern Arizona sponsored two events with the Educational Enrichment Foundation. The first, on Nov. 29, was the Coats For Kids event in which 60 kids from Borton Magnet School received winter coats and a meal at Peter Piper Pizza. The second, on Dec. 1, was a Shoe Day where 125 children from the Tucson Unified School District received new shoes, socks, a book and a cookie. The Pima County Attorney’s office has funded this event through the Rincon Optimists.
  • Marana-Foothills Optimist Club: Donated 17 jean jackets to Bikers Against Child Abuse for the group’s use with the kids it is sponsoring.
  • Adopt A School program: Mayor Jonathan Rothschild joined students at Miles Exploratory Learning Center, 1400 E. Broadway, on Dec. 1 to plant nearly two dozen trees and large shrubs. Through the Trees for Tucson urban forestry program of Tucson Clean & Beautiful, the Mayor’s Adopt A School program, sponsored by Kinder Morgan, will plant 600 shade trees on local school grounds in the coming year.
