Seven baseball players from CDO celebrate following a signing ceremony for athletic scholarships at Canyon Del Oro High School on Nov. 12, 2014. They are, from left, Erick Miguelesโ€š University of New Mexico; Nick Ames, UNLV; Nate Soriano, University of Arizona; Hayden May, University of North Dakota; Adam Hoyos, Lourdes University; Gabe Benavides, Grand Canyon University and Max Smith, UNLV.

New Canyon del Oro baseball coachย Keith Francisย โ€“ who coached the Dorados the 2002 state championship before moving on to college coaching โ€“ inherits a team that had a mind-boggling seven players sign college scholarship papers last week. I doubt anyone keeps records locally of such things, but if thatโ€™s not a record, what is? After signing their letters-of-intent on Wednesday, CDO regularsย Nick Ames, who signed with UNLV;ย Erick Migueles, who signed with New Mexico; andย Gabe Benavides, who signed with Grand Canyon; drove to Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. They were invited to participate in a two-day prospects tournament there Saturday and today. Keep your eyes on Migueles; he hit .520 with 12 home runs for the Dorados as a junior.
