UA coach Tony Amato has the Wildcats in the NCAA tournament.

UA women’s soccer coachΒ Tony Amato, whose Wildcats won the NCAA tournament opener on Friday at Oklahoma State, was one of six interviewed byΒ Greg ByrneΒ when the school’s soccer coaching position became vacant two years ago. Arizona was clearly the worst soccer program in the Pac-12. Amato separated himself from other candidates not just by his remarkable coaching success at Rollins College and Stephen F. Austin, but also by putting together a 12-page book, fully bound, presenting his case to be the next Arizona coach. β€œI take great pride in what we built at Rollins and SFA,” Amato said. β€œWe built something to last.” Indeed, Rollins has gone 68-19-6 since Amato left that Florida school, and Stephen F. Austin has gone 32-6-4 in a program Amato established.
