Latin superstar Pitbull — aka Grammy-winning rapper Armando Christian Perez — returns to the AVA at Casino del Sol Sunday, July 8, for the first time in five years.
And in the time since he nearly sold out the AVA at Casino del Sol back in 2013, he has pretty much lived up to his nickname of Mr. Worldwide, traveling around the world spreading mostly good deeds of pay-it-forward kindness.
Here are a few of Pitbulls’ pitstops.
Miami: A Miami native, Pitbull opened a charter school in the Little Havana neighborhood where he grew up. Sports Leadership and Management offers kids in grades sixth through 12th classes including sports medicine, broadcasting and administration with the aim of teaching kids valuable skills to keep them off the streets.
Kodiak, Alaska: A 2012 contest hosted by Walmart asked fans to vote to send Pitbull to their local Walmart. Internet pranksters tried to sabotage the competition by getting people to vote for the most remote Walmart in the United States — located in chilly, isolated Kodiak, Alaska. Pitbull was a good sport and went to the Alaska Walmart. “You gotta understand that I will go anywhere in the world for my fans,” he said in an interview with Mashable.
São Paulo, Brazil: Pitbull’s “We are One (Ole Ola)” featuring Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian artist Claudia Leitte was the official song for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The trio performed the song at the opening ceremony in São Paulo.
Puerto Rico: When Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico late last summer, Pitbull sent his own plane to bring cancer patients back to the mainland United States for treatment. “Thank God we’re blessed to help. Just doing my part,” the rapper told the New York Daily News.
New York City: Pitbull was set to address the UN on March 22 — World Water Day — about the global water crisis. While a Nor’easter storm kept the rapper from attending the event, he was still named a Clean Water Here Global Ambassador for his efforts in getting clean drinking water for those in need.
Las Vegas: Pitbull has been performing at the Axis Theatre at Planet Hollywood since 2015. His show “Time of Our Lives” is inspired by his family homeland. “The idea was spawned and blossomed in Cuba, in Havana,” he said in an interview with Las Vegas Magazine.
