Upcycle Tucson opens for business Saturday, Oct. 1.

The creative reuse arts center has a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 9:45 a.m. and a day filled with refreshments and mini projects for people to stretch their creative muscles.

Located in an industrial office complex on West Grant Road, Upcycle Tucson accepts donated items β€” keeping them out of landfills β€” and sells those discarded goods, which can be transformed into art. Upcycle also offers classes.

While owners Andrea Edmundson and Victor Quiros have plenty of traditional art supplies, they also have more unusual items like...

β€œWe got a big fake bone,” said Edmundson of the hard Styrofoam femur used at a medical convention.

They also received the internal workings of a piano along with cases of new holiday cards, some of which will be used in a holiday decor class.

Upcycle also has a gallery, which will be featuring pieces from several local artists.

Upcycle Tucson is located at 924 W. Grant Road, 445-7694, email info@upcycletucson.com. Visit upcycletucson.com and on Facebook for more details and to sign up for classes. Hours are 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday.
