Conductor James Feddeck returns for an all-Beethoven program with the Tucson Symphony.

Tucson Symphony Orchestra closes out its 2015-16 MasterWorks series with Mendelssohn’s “Reformation” Symphony.

Felix Mendelssohn composed his Fifth Symphony in commemoration of the Lutheran Reformation’s “Augsburg Confession,” considered the most important document to come from the Reformation.

The symphony includes Martin Luther’s chorale “Ein feste Burg is unser Gott” (“A Mighty Fortress Is Our God”) and stands as one of Mendelssohn’s greatest works.

The MasterWorks finale, conducted by James Feddeck, includes two TSO premieres — Glinka’s “Valse-Fantasie” and Debussy’s “Children’s Corner” — and Elgar’s Serenade for Strings.

This is Feddeck’s second appearance with the TSO. He was here in 2014 to close out the 2013-14 MasterWorks series, which featured Beethoven’s Fourth Symphony.

The concert will be performed at 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, March 5, and 2 p.m. Sunday, March 6, at Catalina Foothills High School, 4300 E. Sunrise Drive. Tickets are $45 to $65 through tucsonsymphony.org or at the door.
