Canadian pop singer Carly Rae Jepsen will help Tucson get in the Christmas spirit when she headlines 93.7 KRQ’s “Christmas in Tucson” concert Wednesday, Dec. 2, at Fox Tucson Theatre.
We’re not sure if she will lead the audience in a round of caroling but you can be sure that Jepsen will pull out her multiplatinum hit single “Call Me Maybe.”
She also has a new album, her months-old “Emotion,” which is garnering critical acclaim. Spin magazine called the single “Run Away with Me” “the best pop song of 2015 yet,” “an undeniable hit waiting in the wings for its moment” and a “big, bold, beautiful masterpiece.”
Then there’s the video for the album’s lead-off single “I Really Like You,” which features Tom Hanks. (See it at tucson.com/calientetunedin — it’s hilarious!) The song is a throwback to the days when pop music was uncluttered with deep thoughts. Its message is simple: “I really really really really really really like you / And I want you, do you want me, do you want me, too?”
“Emotion” is Jepsen’s third album in a career that started with the British Columbia-born singer-songwriter‘s debut album “Tug of War” in 2008. That was a year after Jepsen, 30, placed third in season five of “Canadian Idol” — think “American Idol” up north.
Pop newcomer Daya opens the show at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
