One of the cornerstones of the hip and happening Hub Restaurant and Ice Creamery downtown is, no surprise, its ice cream.

So the restaurant's new spinoff, the Hub Ice Cream Factory around the corner, will come as little surprise to devotees of the shop's house-made treats.

The new venture, set to open at 245 E. Congress St. in May, will offer an expanded menu of ice cream treats, including milk shakes, floats, ice cream cakes and ice cream sandwiches.

“We are proud to be a member of the downtown community and we’re excited to expand just across the street. We’re really looking forward to introducing all of our new sweet treats,” Sandy Ford, the factory's director of operations, said in a written release. “There can never be enough ice cream.”

The Hub makes its ice cream in house with flavors including Hub’s signature salted caramel, oatmeal cookie dough and birthday party. Yum, birthday cake churned into the ice cream.

The new shop also will offer rotating seasonal flavors courtesy pastry chef Irene Cohen, and vegan and gluten-free varieties will be available.
