Tucson Festival of Books logo 2021

In past years, we rarely saw authors who live overseas at the Tucson Festival of Books. One reason is that it was often prohibitively expensive to fly these authors to Tucson.

That isnโ€™t a problem when the festival is virtual as it is this year. Some authors will be available to readers in presentations even though they are in other countries. Isnโ€™t technology wonderful?

Ann Cleeves will be appearing at 9 a.m. on March 7 on the virtual Elmore Leonard Memorial Stage from England. She will talk about her books that are the basis for ITVโ€™s series โ€œVera.โ€ The BBC series, โ€œShetland,โ€ is another based on her books. Her latest novel is โ€œThe Darkest Evening.โ€

Sarwat Chadda will also appear from England, at 9 a.m. on March 6 at the virtual Tucson Unified School District Children/Teen Stage. He will discuss with others about writing adventure books. His latest is โ€œCity of the Plague God.โ€

Naturalist Helen Macdonald will appear at 9 a.m. on March 6 at the virtual Citi Stage to talk about writing, birds and the natural world. She lives in England. Her books include โ€œVesper Flightsโ€ and โ€œH is for Hawk.โ€

Paola Escobar will appear from Columbia at 11 a.m. on March 7 at the Nuestras Raรญces Virtual Stage. She will join author Silvia Lรณpez to discuss collaborative efforts in creating โ€œThe Queen of Tejano Music: Selena!โ€ a picture-book biography. Escobarโ€™s other book is โ€œThe Hatmakers.โ€

Liz Pichon will appear at 11 a.m. on March 7 at the virtual Tucson Unified School District Children/Teen Stage. She will be connecting from England in an interactive drawing session based on her book, โ€œShow Wars.โ€ She is also the author of โ€œThe Brilliant World of Tom Gates.โ€
