Itβs that time again! As you sit down for that extravagant foodie ritual known to the world as Easter Sunday brunch, keep these three words in mind.
Resist ... the ... mimosa.
Hereβs your chance to try something new. Tucson brunch staple Maynards Market & Kitchen pours a drink thatβs just as refreshing, but with a little more kick than your typical bubbly OJ.
The boozy grapefruit concoction is called the California Girl, because it features two products from Bay Area distiller St. George Spirits. The small-batch liquors made in a lofty facility on the picturesque island of Alameda are quickly becoming a fixture at Tucson watering holes.
Bartender Jillian Lacroix who poured my drink the other night, uses St. George California citrus vodka made with orange peels from Lindcove Ranch in the San Joaquin Valley. To give the drink an herbal note, she also puts in equal parts St. George gin.
Itβs so simple, you could make it at home. Put flavored vodka, gin, fresh-squeezed grapefruit juice and plain simple syrup into a shaker with ice. Do your thing, then strain.
Bam! Youβve got a sweet sipper with a little pucker from the grapefruit and a punch from the booze. It was fruity and fun in evening, but the drink is also easy enough for the a.m. All you need is a big hunk of prime rib, and youβre set.
