This is not going to be any great secret to those of us who appreciate a tall cold one: Tap & Bottle is one of the best beer stores in the country.

Duh!Β

How can it not be among the best not only in the breadth of its varieties of beers on hand, including a couple of local brews, but in its overall mission to educate our beer-loving palates? Where else can you grab a six-pack of small-batch microbrews and get a quick lesson on the best way to enjoy its every nuance?

Apparently Men's Journal magazine figured out what we've known since Scott and Rebecca Safford opened Tap & Bottle at 403 N. Sixth Ave. three years ago. The all-about-men mag picked Tap & Bottle as one of its 50 best beer stores in the country.

Hey, this is not some popularity contest; they based their decision on the variety of beer carried, the sheer volume of beers in stock and the owners' desire to champion local and microbrews.

Men's Journal picked only one store from each state β€” with the exception of Utah, whose liquor laws pretty much handcuff any attempt to be creatively brewtastic (yep, we just made up that word!). Instead, it reached into the burgeoning brew scene in Washington, D.C.

Tap & Bottle is open from 2 to 11 p.m. Mondays through Wednesday, 2 to midnight Thursdays, noon to 12 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays and from noon to 10 p.m. Sundays.
