The buns. The bacon. The beans.
Tucson loves its Sonoran hot dogs.
But whose dog do locals love best?
That's an easy one, it turns out. In our most recent Food Fight, El Guero Canelo devoured the competition.
Named for its owner's red hair and light skin color ("guero canelo" means "cinnamon blond" in Spanish), the restaurant is the Old Pueblo's most famous maker of bacon-wrapped franks. It's been featured in The New York Times and Bon AppΓ©tit magazine and on "CBS Sunday Morning" and the Travel Channel's "Man v. Food."
Heck, the rock band Calexico, whose founders are from Tucson, even wrote a song called "Guero Canelo."
El Guero Canelo's Sonoran hot dogs ($2.29) come topped with beans, grilled onions, raw onions, tomatoes, mustard, mayo and jalapeΓ±o sauce.
Sammy dogs ($2.79), which have two franks, were especially popular with readers.
Retired Raytheon employee William Berry said there's no doubt in his mind that Guero's dogs are the best.
"Everyone else comes in second," he wrote. "Some closer than others."
But not everybody is on board the Guero train.
Homemaker Cindy Ramirez threw her support behind Aqui Con El Nene, a truck at the corner of North Flowing Wells and West Wetmore roads.
"We go there almost every Saturday," she wrote. "It blows Canelo out of the water."
