Fourth Avenue, taco playground? I'm inclined to say so after my latest trip, when I spotted at least half a dozen spots to get your fix. A lot of them aren't exactly Mexican restaurants, but this place surprised me the most: a tiny one-room shop called The Kitchen, next door to La Indita.

The smartly-decorated space is owned and staffed by bartenders from the IBT's gay bar right there, and it serves everything from BLT sandwiches with king crab to carne asada fries. (You can also order the food inside the bar, and check out those late-night hours ...)

I chowed down on a plate of carnitas, placed on grill-marked corn tortillas and topped with avocado tomatillo salsa and neon pink pickled onions, still in their rings. The pork had been stewed in its own juices and then oven baked, so it came out chunky and plump. Fabulous!

Weird fact: Sitting in there, I couldn't help but think of all the other things this building has been in the last decade: The hippie vegetarian Casbah Teahouse, then that yummy gyro place the Medusa Kebob House. Interesting history ...
