- Hamilton Distillers, the maker of Whiskey del Bac just picked up a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Judges awarded the Dorado Single Malt the highest possible rating after four days of blind tastings. Del Bac's other products the Classic Single Malt and Clear Single Malt earned a silver and bronze respectively.
- Downtown Tucson's underground cocktail bar Tough Luck Club just got written up in Playboy Magazine's Bars We Love series. The piece calls the club underneath Reilly Craft Pizza one of "the best bars in America" and says it has "the feel of both a dive and a speakeasy." Read more here.
- Local artisan Don Guerra from Barrio Bread was named one of the Top Ten Breadmakers in America by Dessert Professional Magazine. The industry magazine included an extensive interview with the local breadmaker. To purchase a copy, click here.
- Author and food systems expert Gary Nabhan was recently featured on the nationally syndicated radio show "The Splendid Table." He spoke with contributor Von Diaz about Tucson's UNESCO designation as a World City of Gastronomy. Here's a fun line from the interview: "Tucson is a place I deeply love. ... This town just lives and celebrates every day with its great food and its great farming traditions. One in six jobs here in Tucson is related to food and farming."
- El Charro Café is going to be featured on a new TV show called "State Plate" hosted by "American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks. The show, which will premiere on this fall on INSP, is about the iconic foods of each state. Stay tuned for more info about when this episode will air.
