Sons of Orpheus, the Male Choir of Tucson, is joining forces with high school choristers in its spring concerts. A joint concert with the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix is also planned.

April is a busy month for Sons of Orpheus, the Male Choir of Tucson, with four concerts, including a historic collaboration with the Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix.

That concert on April 21 will benefit Habitat for Humanity.

The choir will kick things off Saturday, April 7, with the first of three performances of its 27th annual Gala Spring Concert.

This year the men are teaming up with high school choirs to raise money for school choral programs.

The combined choirs will perform a program that includes works by Puccini, Rachmaninoff, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Woody Guthrie and Leonard Cohen.

In addition to the quirky humor from the men, young soloists will get a spotlight during the joint high school performances.

Admission is $15 at the door, $20 for the April 21 joint concert. Here’s the schedule:

  • 7 p.m. Friday, April 6, featuring the Cienega High School Choir. Vail Theatre of the Arts, 10701 E. Mary Ann Cleveland Way.
  • 3 p.m. Saturday April 7, at St. Francis in the Foothills United Methodist Church, 4625 E. River Road.
  • 3 p.m. April 15, featuring the Buena High School Concert Choir. Buena Performing Arts Center, 5225 E. Buena School Blvd., Sierra Vista.
  • 3 p.m. April 21, featuring Orpheus Male Chorus of Phoenix. Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church 2331 E. Adams St.

The joint concert with the Phoenix choir is the first in what Tucson Orpheus officials say will be an annual event.

The location will alternate yearly between the two cities.
