Martina McBride is making a quick turnaround to Tucson, playing a show at the Fox Tucson Theatre on July 6.
And if you dragged your feet after the date was announced in the spring, you are very close to being out of luck: There were just over 100 tickets left as of Tuesday.
The July 6 date comes less than a year after she packed the house at the much-larger Desert Diamond Casino’s Entertainment Center in Sahuarita, but for her die-hard fans, it’s not soon enough. They could sit in the audience five nights a week for McBride, arguably one of country music’s finest voices — if not the finest.
We don’t say that lightly, but one listen to McBride’s soaring soprano as she hits the high note in the finale of “A Broken Wing” and it’s hard to argue with her fans.
When she sings the tearful ballad “Valentine” or the aching/inspiring “I’m Gonna Love You Through It” pledge to loved ones with cancer, you can hear the tears in her voice. There’s a slight quiver that sucks you into her emotional moment.
Then she cranks up the energy on the poppy “My Baby Loves Me” and the title song off last year’s “Reckless” and reminds you that despite the tempo and her hopping and bopping at the mike, she is a neo-trad country artist digging beneath the pop to uncover the country roots of every song.
McBride, 50, is set to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets are $44 to $109 through foxtucsontheatre.ticketforce.com
