Saguaro National Park is seeking volunteers to help remove buffelgrass from east district lands on Saturday morning, Sept. 10.

Interested volunteers should meet at the park’s Rincon Mountain Visitor Center, 3693 S. Old Spanish Trail, at 7 a.m.

Volunteers should park in the gravel lot west of the resources building (first right turn after entering the park, follow the signs).

Volunteers and park staff will carpool a short distance and then hike off trail to the work site.

Buffelgrass is an invasive, nonnative plant that threatens the Sonoran Desert, park officials said in a news release. The plant spreads quickly, overtakes native vegetation and is a fire threat.

Volunteers should wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes, long pants and a hat.

Volunteers should also bring their own water and a pair of work gloves, if possible.

The park will provide tools and gloves, where needed.

Volunteers will be working with park staff to remove the buffelgrass. The work will end around noon.
