Venus and Jupiter are very prominent in the western sky after sunset. Thursday they are less than three degrees apart with Venus being slightly closer to the horizon and Jupiter above and to the left (south) of Venus.

Next Wednesday they will only be 0.3 of a degree apart. This close conjunction (pairing) of Venus and Jupiter is not to be missed. It will be spectacular in binoculars or a small telescope.

The nearly 9-day-old moon will be just 3 degrees above the bright star Spica in Virgo the Virgin Thursday night. By Sunday the moon will be less than a degree from Saturn in the east, and Venus and Jupiter will only be 1 degree apart in the west.
