Award-winning bilingual children’s book author, Roni Capin Rivera-Ashford, will be signing her latest book, “Miguel and the Amazing Alebrijes,” which is a related adventure book for “Coco,” along with other books in Nogales and Tucson.
The Disney-Pixar movie “Coco” has brought in more than $82 million at the box office since Nov. 30.
“This is crazy wonderful,” said Capin Rivera-Ashford of the movie’s success. “I think this was an unexpected and unbelievable, positive and loving response.”
Capin Rivera-Ashford planned to return to Nogales Wednesday, Dec. 6, to sign books from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Nogales-Santa Cruz County Chamber of Commerce & Visitor Center, 123 W. Kino Park Place. That was her second signing in Nogales. During her first book signing in November, people waited in line all four hours. “We ran out of books and I took orders,” said Capin Rivera-Ashford who sold more than 200 books.
In Tucson, she will be signing from 4:30 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 15, and from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 16 at Guillermo’s Double L Restaurant, 1830 S. Fourth Ave. On Dec. 17, she will autograph books from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Rincon Market, 2513 E. Sixth St.
Capin Rivera-Ashford, who grew up in Nogales and has lived in Tucson nearly 30 years, collaborated on “Miguel and the Amazing Alebrijes” with her son, Aarón Rivera-Ashford, of Los Angeles. He also wrote the read-along with CD for “Coco” and Roni translated the book into Spanish. Roni also wrote the Spanish translation for the “Coco” related adventure book “Miguel and the Grand Harmony”, written by Matt de la Peña.
She will be selling the three books, plus three of her bilingual books, “My Nana’s Remedies”, “My Tata’s Remedies” and “Hip, Hip, Hooray it’s Monsoon Day!”
“Miguel and the Amazing Alebrijes” and the “Coco” read-along sell each for $7. The other four books sell each for $15.
