Firefighter Matt Gordon is known at his firehouse as the guy who cooks.
But over the past year or so, his cooking had a deeper mission than just feeding his firefighter brothers at Golder Ranch Fire District.
He was road-testing recipes and ideas for his upstart nano brewery, Sentinel Peak Brewing Co.
“He came up with some good recipes over the year,” said his business partner and fellow firefighter, Taylor Carter. “Some were really great, and some were really awful.”
The pair and their third firefighter partner, Jeremy Hilderbrand, expanded their food offerings and last Friday rolled out lunch service with a menu of sandwiches, salads, pastas and “little bites” to go along with their eight craft brews on tap. Prices run from $2.50 for appetizer-sized snacks that include antipasto, hummus or Bavarian-style soft pretzels to $8.95 for a rueben sandwich.
Sentinel Peak opened in early January at 4746 E. Grant Road. Beginning today, its hours are from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Carter said once the brewery can increase its production from its current nine barrels a week, it will expand the hours.

Sentinel Peak joins other Tucson breweries that serve food alongside their beers, including Thunder Canyon Brewery, with locations downtown and at Foothills Mall on the northwest side; Barrio Brewing Co. downtown; Nimbus on East 44th Street; and The Address at 1702 E. Speedway.
