After setting scoring records at Pima College last season, Tucson High gradΒ Shakir SmithΒ made his Division I debut before 13,000 people at New Mexicoβs βThe Pitβ last week. Undaunted, Smith led Adams State with 21 points in a 62-50 exhibition loss to the Lobos. Smith will renew his old Tucson prep rivalry with PuebloβsΒ Michael PerezΒ of Nevada when Adams State plays in Reno on Monday night. Perez, who is likely to be the Wolf Packβs top scorer, has made good use of his time at UTEP and Nevada. Heβs set to graduate in December.
