Tucson High's Shakir Smith gets wrapped up in the defense of Ironwood Ridge's Tyler Williams in the third quarter at Ironwood Ridge High School, Oro Valley, Ariz., Jan. 13, 2011.

After setting scoring records at Pima College last season, Tucson High gradΒ Shakir SmithΒ made his Division I debut before 13,000 people at New Mexico’s β€œThe Pit” last week. Undaunted, Smith led Adams State with 21 points in a 62-50 exhibition loss to the Lobos. Smith will renew his old Tucson prep rivalry with Pueblo’sΒ Michael PerezΒ of Nevada when Adams State plays in Reno on Monday night. Perez, who is likely to be the Wolf Pack’s top scorer, has made good use of his time at UTEP and Nevada. He’s set to graduate in December.
