This holiday try to give gifts that will be great for your family and friends as well as your wallet.
This December, we are crafting easy and inexpensive presents on the @ThisisTucson Instagram account to help get your creative juices flowing.
And we're kicking everything off with a homemade lip scrub and balm sure to exfoliate and moisturize those wintery chapped lips.
Watch our Instagram story and get the recipe below.
Easy lip scrub recipe
Ingredients:
• 2 tablespoons of sugar, you can use either white or brown sugar.
• 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, we used a virgin and unrefined coconut oil.
• 1/2 teaspoon honey; we're a fan of Crockett's Desert Blossom Mesquite Honey, but any kind will do.
• 1/8 teaspoon flavor extract of your choosing; to keep with the coconut vibe we used coconut extract.
• Small container
In a small bowl mix together sugar, coconut oil, honey and extract. The mixture should resemble the consistency of cookie dough before you add the flour. Once completely combined, transfer your mixture into a small container. The jar we used was found at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 and holds a little more than half an ounce of product. If you're making a lot, plan ahead and buy in bulk from Amazon or the Jar Store. Add a little bow or ribbon to the jar and you now have a super cute gift to give.
Let whoever receives this gift know the best way to use this lip scrub is to scoop out a pea-size amount with their finger apply it to their lips in a circular motion to exfoliate. One your lips are soft and free of crust, lick or wipe away the product.
Total cost per gift: $2.50
Easy lip balm recipe
Ingredients:
• 2 teaspoons beeswax; save some cash and buy this online, we paid $14.99 for this item at a Micheal's, don't repeat our mistake!
• 2 1/2 teaspoons coconut oil.
• 1/8 teaspoon flavor extract of your choosing, we picked mint this time.
• A sprig of mint; this is very optional, try adding other herbs or dried flowers to the mix.
Carefully pour the hot concoction into your container, pluck mint leaves and add them to the top. Let the mixture solidify for about a few hours.
TA-DA! You now have your very own homemade lip balm to give to friends and family.
