Catalina Foothills' Connor Bailey, left, goes for a second-half steal against Ironwood Ridge's Sean Collins on Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009.

Ironwood Ridge grad Collins hired by Pac-12

Sean Collins was a good basketball player at Ironwood Ridge High School, who sought part-time work in the media relations office as an Arizona freshman five years ago. Much like many who worked under now-retired Tom Duddleston in the UA sports information business — many of whom are now working in the NBA, Pac-12 and at various NCAA precincts — Collins started at the bottom and worked his way up. Collins was especially effective while working for UA track coaches Fred Harvey and James Li. Last week, Collins was hired by the Pac-12 from a field of 141 applicants and will begin work in the league’s San Francisco office in August. Well done.
