Food is art.

Ask any bonafide foodie and they will tell you: Food has the same unifying, soul-affirming effect on a body as listening to an orchestra play Mozart or watching a classic film or play.

Fox Tucson Theatre is combining food and music for what it has dubbed its most unique and exciting event of the season: “Pairings: Music and Morsels.”

On Friday, Oct. 25, the historic downtown theater, in partnership with Tucson City of Gastronomy, will host a trio of Tucson songwriting icons — Nancy McCallion, Brian Lopez and Peter Dalton Ronstadt — who have written songs to pair with new culinary creations by a trio of pretty terrific Tucson chefs — Obadiah “Obie” Hindman (Mountain Oyster Club), Sarah Lamberth (Davis-Monthan Air Force Base) and Pablo Valencia (chef-owner Scratching the Plate, Kitchen and Catering).

The evening will include signature cocktails from Si Charro restaurants.

The lineup:

  • “You Could Be Mine,” music and lyrics by McCallion; performed by McCallion and Danny Krieger — paired with Hindman’s Tostadita of Desert Pearl Mushroom & Vera Earl Ranch Beef.
  • “Lulu K Bonita,” music and lyrics by Lopez, performed by Lopez — paired with Valencia’s “Cowboy Under the Stars” Mesquite Rosette with Rabbit Seca.
  • “Ghosts,” music and lyrics by Ronstadt, performed by Ronstadt — paired with Lamberth’s Carnitas Confit atop Blue & Red Masa Harina Pupusas.

Fox Tucson Theatre is teaming up with Tucson City of Gastronomy for its “Music & Morsels” fundraiser on Friday, Oct. 25, at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St.

Dining and mingling tunes will be provided by DJ Mother Tierra — paired with a grazing table buffet including tenderloin and whipped horsey sauce, caprese skewers, shrimp cocktail shooters and other morsels crafted by Si Charro’s Candace Flores Carrillo.

DJ Mother Tierra also will spin the dessert and dancing tunes, with a dessert tower and drinks on stage.

The fun starts at 5:30 p.m. at the Fox, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets start at $375; RSVP through foxtucson.com/music-morsels.

Proceeds benefit the nonprofit Fox Tucson Theatre Foundation.
