Imagine if the Rolling Stones and the Beatles were on the same marquee.
The two greatest rock bands of all time on the same stage for one night only.
OK, itβs never going to happen for obvious reasons, but what about the top Rolling Stones and Beatles tribute bands bringing that show to life?
Thatβs the idea behind βBeatles vs. Stones β A Musical Showdownβ with the Los Angeles-based Abbey Road Beatles tribute band and Dallas-based Stones tribute band Satisfaction thatβs coming to Fox Tucson Theatre on Saturday, Nov. 4.
The show features the tribute bands performing hits from all phases of the Stones and Beatlesβ careers, from their 1960s beginnings in England to their American debuts and international stardom.
With costume and wig changes, we see the Beatles from their Liverpool boy band beginnings to their Sgt. Pepper days and their final album, βAbbey Road.β
We get the Stones from those early days in the 1960s when their gritty rock became the standard bearer for hard rock to the 1970s and β80s when they infused more dance rhythms and pop before their split-up and reunion in the late 1980s-early β90s.
βPut both together in a couple-hours show and youβre going through these timelines, itβs pretty fascinating to see how it all progressed,β said Chris LeGrand, a dead ringer for Mick Jagger who started Satisfaction 23 years ago. βWeβre bringing something that nobody got to see.β
Axel βRingo Starrβ Clarke admits showdown is probably a bit of a misnomer for the βBeatles vs. Stonesβ show, which they have been touring since 2015. It makes it sound like the bands are going to duke it out to find out which is the best.
βYou get the entire spectrum of the bands,β he said before pulling out the company line that the only winner at the end of the night is βthe audience.β
βAt the end of the day they are really damn good (bands),β said Clarke, whose band has been around since 2009. βSometimes itβs as simple as that. People like ice cream because itβs really good and it doesnβt disappoint. The Beatles are real good and the music doesnβt disappoint.β
Expect to hear the greatest of the greatest hits from both bands. Abbey Roadβs set list includes the Beatles hits βGet Back,β βTwist and Shout,β βSgt. Pepperβs Lonely Hearts Club Band,β βAbbey Road,β βDay in the Life,β βPenny Lane,β βLet it Be,β βEleanor Rigbyβ and more.
Satisfaction will perform Rolling Stones hits, including βHeart of Stone,β βSheβs A Rainbow,β βSympathy for the Devil,β βThe Last Time,β βAngie,β βMiss You,β βYou Canβt Always Get What You Wantβ and βBrown Sugar.β
βItβs really about the music,β LeGrand said. βI think the nostalgia of seeing this band, weβre doing an era of the Stones that most people didnβt get to see unless they were around in 1964, 1965.β
βThey are all just great songs. Itβs two hours of fantastic songs,β he added. βItβs all killer and no filler. Thereβs no down moments in the show.β
βBeatles vs. Stonesβ has played to sold-out venues nationwide, including in Tucson. Saturdayβs concert begins at 7:30 p.m. at Fox Tucson, 17 W. Congress St. Tickets are $20-$67.50 through foxtucson.com.
