You know that cliché that every good country song mentions a dog?
On Sunday, May 19, dogs are taking top billing in a Tucson country concert in their benefit.
Five of Tucson’s most popular country acts are performing in “Dancing for Dogs,” a fundraiser to benefit the Tucson nonprofit dog rescue Pathways for Paws.
The Billy Shaw Jr. Band, Badlands, FlipSide, Jack Bishop and Scotty Freel will perform from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Maverick King of Clubs, 6622 E. Tanque Verde Road. Proceeds from the $10 per person donation will go to Pathways, which hosts dog adoptions and promotes pet wellness and responsible pet ownership through its vaccination and microchipping efforts.
“It’s a chance to make a real difference in the lives of dogs in our community,” said event organizer Jessica Northey-Shaw.
KIIM-FM DJ Porkchop will work the turntables between bands, and KIIM FM Morning Show host Shannon Black will also be on hand.
“This event is not just about playing music,” Billy Shaw Jr. said in a news release. “It’s about using our talents to make a difference for our furry friends in need. I’m honored to lend my voice to such a meaningful cause.”
Pathways for Paws will host a vaccine and microchip clinic from 11 a.m. to noon Sunday and will have some of its adoptable dogs on site for people to meet.
Sunday’s event comes days before National Rescue Dog Day on May 20.
Northey-Shaw organized Sunday’s event after adopting her dog Venus in early April from Pathways.
Venus joined her and husband Billy Shaw Jr.’s three other rescue dogs.
