It’s going to be an exciting weekend on Tucson stages, with three shows vying for your attention on Friday night and a spirited “Bohemian Rhapsody” sing-along taking over Fox Tucson Theatre on Saturday.
You might have to do rock, paper, scissors to decide where you’ll spend your Friday night.
If you’re a fan of regional Mexican music, head over at the AVA, 5655 W. Valencia Road, where the Grammy-nominated Los Tucanes de Tijuana will bring the audience to its feet with its blend of norteño, corrido and banda. The chart-topping band has a worldwide following largely due to its authentic and infectious sound that screams Mexico.
They share the stage with the Sinaloa-born regional Mexican band La Adictiva beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 23. Tickets are $36-$125 through casinodelsol.com.
If you’re more of a 1970s soft rock/pop fan, Little River Band (“Lady,” “Reminiscing,” “Lonesome Loser”) swings into Desert Diamond Casino, 1100 W. Pima Mine Road, for a show at 8 p.m. Friday.
Tickets are $35-$55 through ddcaz.com.
But if your taste leans more local alternative rock, Local Love Presents is hosting its “Love-A-Palooza’ beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rialto, 318 E. Congress.
The lineup includes Harmony Punks, Wolfy, The Wind Below, Pyrotechnica, Znora and Cheers to the Outside.
Doors for this all-ages concert open at 6:30 and tickets are $5 in advance through rialtotheatre.com or $8 at the door.
If you’re passing by Fox Tucson Theatre, 17 W. Congress, Saturday night, don’t be surprised to hear a shuddering chorus singing, “We are the champions, my friends/And we’ll keep on fighting to the end.”
That’s usually the reaction when that scene comes on in the sing-along version of the Freddie Mercury/Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which the Fox is screening beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24.
One of the highlights for diehard Mercury fans will come during the iconic scenes of Mercury and the band at the behemoth 1985 Live Aid concert near the movie’s end.
Tickets are $10 through foxtucson.com.
