Star Wars Day, celebrated annually on May 4th, originated from a playful pun on the iconic phrase "May the force be with you". The phrase was often used by characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi and other Jedis who often used the phrase as a sentiment of goodwill. As fans noticed the similarity to "May the 4th be with you," a new holiday was born. Although the day has no official origin, it gained popularity through social media hashtags and fan gatherings. One of the earliest uses of the phrase dates back to 1978, one year after the release of 'Star Wars: Episode IV โ€“ A New Hope'. Over time retailers joined in with themed promotions by Disney, the parent company of LucasFilms, the studio behind Star Wars. This year, fans can enjoy streaming marathons of all 11 live-action films on Disney+ or catch the 'Skywalker Saga' in select theaters in the US.
