200-year-old Torah

A yad or pointer is used to keep the place of the reader as they read a 200 year old Torah at the University of Arizona. Beth Nakhai, an associate professor in the Arizona Center for Judaic Studies, received the scroll in 2009. On Feb. 10 and 11, a rabbi will do restoration work on the document. The Arizona Center for Judaic Studies at the University of Arizona will host the lecture "Holy Places in the Old City of Jerusalem: An International Legal Perspective" 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6.Β 

Leonard Hammer, a visiting professor of modern Israel studies, will speak at the UA Hillel Foundation, 1245 E. Second St., on the role holy sites play in current conflicts.Β
