After about 14 years of training volunteers to visit the elderly in assisted living facilities, Steve and Virginia Kacprzak have decided to share the love with caregivers.
Starting Thursday, Feb. 16, the couple's Love Thy Neighbor Ministries, Inc. will begin offering a monthly reprieve specifically for individuals caring for someone at home with "mild to moderate Alzheimer's."
"Sometimes caregivers get burned out and wind up taking a loved one to a nursing home because they are so exhausted they can't keep going," said Steve Kacprzak.
In February, Love Thy Neighbor Ministries is partnering with Vistoso Community Church, 1200 E. Rancho Vistoso Blvd. in Oro Valley, to put on the first Good Neighbor Get Together Program.
From 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., caregivers can leave their loved ones at the church with a group of 15 to 20 trained volunteers for lunch, crafts, chair exercises, games and live music, Kacprzak said.
The ministry hopes to involve other churches, increasing the free program's availability.
