Picture this: Youโre working out โ squatting, sprinting, lunging โ doing things you usually reserve for the gym.
But youโre not at the gym. Youโre in a brewery.
Next thing you know, youโre sipping (or chugging โ we wonโt judge) a nice cold pint with fellow exercise and beer enthusiasts.
Youโre not dreaming. Youโre at Brewery Bootcamp, a full-body workout at Dragoon Brewing Co., led by Brice Helms, personal trainer and owner of Framework Fitness Training LLC.
Workouts are mainly body weight focused, but Helms uses some of Dragoonโs rubberized five-gallon kegs, filled to different weights with water, for strength exercises such as dead lifts, bent-over rows and farmerโs walks.
โI change the format every class, so itโs never the same routine and it ends up being a great cardiovascular and strength training workout,โ Helms said.
โWe start about an hour before the taproom opens with a brief warmup, the workout itself and finish with a stretch-focused cool-down. Then all participants get to have a glass of any of Dragoonโs beers. Itโs a good post-workout reward.โ
The novelty of working out at a brewery, and the low price, are a draw for participants.
โI went because I thought it was cool that we got to work out in a brewery and you get a beer when youโre done,โ said Alexis Barber, 27.
โItโs a good price, too. Ten dollars to work out and your first beer. Also, it didnโt hurt that the instructor was cute.โ
The programโs goal is to introduce better beer to exercise enthusiasts and give the craft beer lover a great excuse to work out and keep fit, Helms said.
โDrinking beer and exercise donโt sound like a likely combination, but done in the right context, they can work very well together,โ he added.
